Carol,
Thanks for replying. I will give you what sparse info I have, on Wm Anderson. It's mostly guesswork. Wm. Anderson was said to have been born in VA, possibly Frederick Co.,VA. JOHN ANDERSON, who married Nancy Ann CLARK., was possibly WM's brother. There is documentary evidence of John Anderson and wife Nancy Clark Anderson living in VA and then in SC> KY> and finally Davidson Co TN. Nancy's sister, WINIFRED (Winny) CLARK married a William Anderson, brother of JOHN ANDERSON. IF Wm. is John's brother then Wm's wife was Winny Clark Anderson. One of William Anderson's grandsons, Robert Drake Anderson, was in the CSA. In a regimental history of the 20th TN Volunteer Regt, in which Rob't Anderson served, it states: Robert Drake Anderson was born near the mouth of the Turnbull Creek on the banks of the big Harpeth, about 1 mi North of Kingston Springs. His grandfather came from near CHarleston, SC in 1798 his father accompanying and they lived in the OLD STONE FORT until 1802, when with a colony including Woodwards, Pegrams,Thompsons, Myses, Dunns and
others, they moved Westward to the Harpeth Lands. His Grandfather and father lived among the Indians until they left that section. "There is a deed between JOHN WOMBLE and a WILLIAM ANDERSON dated May 12 1800, for land on "Waters of West Harpeth ferry" ,which was a part of a tract of land given to Womble as payment for service in Rev. War. I don't know if this land is adjacent to or near the other lands WM ANDERSON purchased. Another Deed between WM ANDERSON and NEIL THOMPSON dated Aug. 31, 1809 for 62 acres " ON the HURRICANE BRANCH, a branch of TURNBULL's CREEK. The land began at the " Mouth of Said Branchand running W.8 S.28 poles to a Hackberry thence S 5 W to Spanish Oak from thence 8 N to an Ash 28 poles ( etc. it goes on and on.) eventually connecting to ZLEONARD BURNETT'S LINE and thence directly down said Hurrican BRanch to the beginning." There is another between WM ANDERSON & WM. THOMPSON, deacon of the church at Thompson's Meeting house dated 27 May 1820. Wm ANDERSON deeded 2 Acres of land "....lying on the HURRICANE BRANCH being a branch of TURNBULL CREEK near the Mouth" . THIS 2 Acre Tract encompassed the Thompson Meeting House and Spring.
We have assumed that this was a church of some kind, and have never been able to find another reference to it. Last year I was re-reading some Davidson Co Court Minutes from April Sessions 1816, and found a couple of references to THOMPSONS OLD SCHOOL HOUSE. John Hannah and John E Clark were both commissioned to oversee the clearing and maintenance of roads that summer, and in both commissions there is reference to the area around Wm Thompsons Old School House. This might be the meeting house that contained the land that Wm Anderson
sold totaling 2 acres to Wm Thompson in 1818. The Meeting House existed before Anderson sold the 2 acres to Thompson, apparently.

A William Anderson and John Anderson were both appointed Justices of the peace in 18 .

William's 2 sons ( there may have been more children. Possibly a daughter named NANCY, who married a Lewis Durning?) married in Davidson Co. JAMES married Sarah HUGHES in 1817. They moved to Perry Co where they settled down. I found the original marriage document in a trip to the Metro Archives in Nashville a few years back, and it is signed by William Anderson. It is SO tempting to assume this would be the father of James, and since he was a JP, assume that he married his son and daughter-in-law. But , since there were at least 3 WM Andersons in Davidson Co at the time, and there is no proof that the WM
Anderson who was made a JP was the same as my ancestor, nor is there any proof that the WM Anderson who married James and Sarah and signed
the marriage doc. was the father of James, so it could have been any 1 of the 3 Wm Andersons in the county at the time. Hence, I can't make
that leap, although the data is compelling.

WILLIAM ANDERSON's other son,v HIRAM KING ANDERSON, 1st married in Davidson Co. SUSAN NEWSOM, dau of BAALAM NEWSOM & ELIZABETH APT, 5
Jan., 1818. HE then married 2nd, SUSAN HARRUP, in Madison Co TN 11 May 1828. They lived in thast county the rest of their days.

There are many documents, Wills, deeds, that have ANDERSONS, CLARKS , HANNAHs and BURNETTs on them indicating these were close families, and
in fact, some the children of the various families intermarried. William ANDERSON died ca. 1850, he was not in the 1850 census. He sold
the 62 acres of land on Hurricane branch, a branch of Turnbull Creek, in Feb. 1850, the deed was dated 1849.He sold this land to WILSON N.
THOMPSON. His estate administration papers were dated 1851 and the administrator was WILSON N. THOMPSON.

I have military history etc for the sons of WM ANDERSON. Let me know what else you could use, and if I have it, I'll send it. Thanks for the help.

Nancy

Nancy,
There are several Anderson's buried in Rutherford County, but per the Cemeteries and Graveyards of Rutherford County Book, published in 2005
by the Rutherford County Historical Society, there is no William Anderson. In Prominent Tennsseeans by William S. Speers, there are
several William Andersons listed. I need more information regarding your Andersons before I can help out.
